Notification for bye-elections on 217 posts of Panchayati Raj Institutions

Shimla. A spokesperson of the State Election Commission informed here today that the notification for bye-elections to 217 posts of Panchayati Raj Institutions has been issued by the Commission.



He said that out of these 217 posts, one post of Zila Parishad Member Jhakri-2, Zila Parishad Shimla, 6 posts of Panchayat Samiti member, 14 Pradhan, 17 Up-Pradhan and 179 Panchayat Ward member’s posts are vacant.
As per the election schedule, nomination papers would be filed on 25th, 26th and 27th July, 2022. Scrutiny of the papers would be done on 28th July, 2022 by the concerned Returning/Assistant Returning Officer after 10 AM.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 3 PM on 30th July, 2022. Election symbols would be allotted to the candidates participating in the elections on 30th July, 2022, immediately after the return of the nomination papers. He said that this election would be on the basis of a free election symbol and no candidate would be allotted the symbol of his or her choice.



The spokesperson said that the polling would be held on 10th August, 2022 from 8 AM to 4 PM. Counting of the post of Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and Panchayat member would be done on 10th August, 2022 at Panchayat Headquarter and counting of votes of Member Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad would be done on 12th August, 2022 at Block Headquarters at 9 AM.



He said that with this notification, the model code of conduct has come into force in Shimla district of the state with immediate effect. Similarly, in the development blocks where Panchayat Samiti members are to be elected, in those blocks and in the Gram Panchayats in which the election of Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and Member is to be held, the model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect. He said that the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and district wise detail of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is available on the website of Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission. The MCC would not be applicable in local urban body areas.
