Cardiac Surgery Centre to function in RPGMC Tanda this month
Shimla. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil said that a Cardiac Surgery Centre has been established in Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital (RPGMC), Kangra at Tanda and will start functioning from 25th September, 2023. He said that a team from Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties, Shimla, will support in conducting Open Heart Surgery in Tanda hospital.
Giving credit to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his commitment to provide state-of-art facilities in health sector to the people of the State, the Minister said that the facility will immensely benefit people of the lower regions of the State.
It is pertinent to mention that Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital Shimla was the first institution to start Open Heart Surgery in Himachal Pradesh in the year 2005. This was indeed a great achievement for a State like Himachal Pradesh, as the facility of Open Heart Surgery in the Government institutions in North India was only available in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh and Sher-E-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar.
From a humble beginning in 2005, the Cardiac Surgery Centre at IGMC Shimla has made tremendous progress. On average, 20-25 Open Heart Surgeries were being performed every month with a success rate of more than 95 percent. Patients of all age groups are being provided free treatment for all kinds of heart diseases under Him Care and Ayushman Bharat Health Care Schemes. Since its inception more than 4000 patients from all over Himachal Pradesh have undergone Open Heart Surgery at IGMC.
He said that the state government was determined to provide State of the Art Health Care facilities to the people of the state at their doorstep, said the Minister adding that the government was endeavoured to strengthen the health institutions with latest technology besides starting Robotic surgery facility in the Medical college hospitals soon.
