The State Government has declared public holiday on the poll day i.e. 12th November, 2022 to the employees working in all government offices/ boards/Corporations/ Educational Institutions and industrial establishments situated in Himachal Pradesh to exercise their right to franchise, on account of assembly elections in the State. A notification in this behalf has been issued by the Chief Secretary Himachal Pradesh.
It will also be a paid holiday to daily waged employees and also within the meaning of Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The special casual leave will be given to the employees on preceding day of poll (11 November 2022), working in different places in the State, but have right to vote in other Constituencies/ places in the State, on the production of certificate from the concerned Presiding Officer that the employee has actually cast his/her vote.
Further, based on the above, the department of labour and employment, HP has directed the industrial establishments, shops, commercial or other establishments situated in the state to grant paid holiday to their workers in order to enable them to exercise their right of franchise. Similar notification has also been issued by EPFO, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
In this regard, CEO HP, Maneesh Garg also informed that notifications have also been issued by the states of Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and UTs of J&K and Ladakh who have also notified grant of paid holiday in favour of Government/Semi-Government employees and workers who are registered voters in the state of Himachal Pradesh and working in their respective states/UTs. This will enable them also to cast their votes in the forthcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh. He therefore appealed to all such workers/employees in HP and neighboring states/UTs to come and cast their votes on 12th November 2022.
