Shimla. Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Thursday said that Himachal Pradesh has completed 5600 houses against the total sanctioned number of around 10,000 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna-Urban. He said that nearly 2000 more houses will be ready in the next two months as construction works of these houses are in final stage.

Suresh Bhardwaj hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government for giving extension to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban. The Minister said that this decision of the Union government is pro-poor. He said that the proposal for the construction of 876 houses has also been submitted to the Government of India. So far, the state has received Rs. 133 crore from the Centre and utilized around Rs. 125 crore, he added.

He said that the scheme was launched in 2015 with the aim of constructing over 1.12 crore homes in urban areas by 15 August, 2022. The Government of India has now extended this scheme till 31st December, 2024 so that the construction of the houses already sanctioned are completed.

Suresh Bhardwaj said that despite tough topographical conditions, HP government had ensured the time-bound construction of houses sanctioned under PMAY (U). Around 8000 houses will be ready by the end of October, of the total 10,000 sanctioned houses, he added. However, there might be some delay in construction of few houses due to topographical conditions or weather issues.

UD Minister said that PMAY (U) is Narendra Modi’s dream scheme. The idea behind the scheme was to ensure a Pucca House for every household across the country.
Suresh Bhardwaj said that more than 10,000 houses had been sanctioned in Himachal Pradesh since the inception of the scheme.
